If you didn't come to the last show, you weren't invited, and if you weren't invited, you'd never know, and if you were invited and didn't show up, we abducted something that went missing soon after, and if you were invited and showed up, then you wouldn't know because we erased your memory with pints of 180 proof Gypsy Romeo's Sexual Abscenity Absinthe. The C.I.A is about art that fondles the mind in a non rapey way. It's about art that reconnects you with the concept that artists do actually put as much thought into a painting as they did painting it, if not more. When is the last time you talked with someone about reading a book or could understand your child's homework? Well our art radiates beams of 'intelligence' that will nullify your embarrassment, and put you back on the track of using words like Arachibutyrophobia and Consecotaleophobia when ordering your next meal.
Almost dying on Everest, living on the streets of New Orleans, murder, painting on every continent, millions of gallons of whiskey, live painting across the country, code breaking, and the race from the bottom to the top and back again are just key aspects of the artists' lives. We haven't even begun to touch the art yet. The paintings are a journal of sorts, keeping a timeline spanning the lives of these two artists, and thousands of years before, touching on everything from embedded codes, pin up girls, WWII, ancient symbols, and tales of fear and loathing. The artists are always prodding history for future inspiration, awakening long lost tales of forgotten heroes, legends, or just the drunk at the local bar.
Want to discover that there's a code embedded in the spine of a book you bought that relates to a location halfway across the world? Want to see a painting light up like a failed move when playing the game 'Operation', when you finally find the hidden activation key? Want to see a Nazi terrorize a Rabbit that has been under the influence of crack, heroin and the preachings of a 7ft tall tranny? Want to spend an evening with two artists that have put their art before anything else in life in order to bring you something honest in a world of the lame? Well this night is the night for you. Dietrich and Garner are not the artists riding into the sunset on a photocopy machine, or cashing in on the demands of the pet portrait set. They won't be making the curtains and the drapes look good together—you will probably find your couch trying to crawl its way up the wall to be closer to the art. These are not the artists you put on the cover of your magazine because they painted a mural on some obscure orphanage in East Africa just to make them look 'International'. Their throats burn because of the whiskey, not because the cock of the mundane art world just got done releasing.
The C.I.A. Welcomes you to the brand new works of Sean Dietrich and Gary G.D. Garner. The night will surely bring surprise assassinations, great art theft, secret conversations, bootleg liquor and the promise that nothing boring comes from art that is well thought out, personal, and created with hard, honest work. If you are one of the lucky ones to be reading this, consider your orders issued.
--An after viewing cocktail reception is scheduled at the Pour Haus Wine Bar (don't worry though, we'll have drinks at the viewing too!) --free gifts for all guests --additional information will be provided in the coming days, including samples of the new art. --THIS IS A VERY LIMITED, EXCLUSIVE FIRST LOOK AT THE WORK.
